The centre of Rhodes is Rhodes Town in the northeast of the island. Within Rhodes Town and inside its walls lies the Old Town of Rhodes, which is also on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. One thing is for sure: if you are not a local, you will certainly get lost on your first visit to the Old Town. Its narrow alleys hide many secrets but even more beauty.

The port of Rhodes is located in the northeast of the island, near the Old Town. Rhodes is the 4^th largest island in Greece, and for getting around, you will definitely need some form of transport, especially if you plan to explore the entire island. The most famous beaches of Rhodes

In Rhodes, you will find the beaches of your dreams. Due to the island's size and morphology, it is full of beaches, many of which boast Blue Flags. In 2013, Rhodes was awarded not one or two, but 20 Blue Flags for its beaches. Also, at specific organised beaches, you can try many watersports. We will tell you in detail what you can do at each beach. Most of the popular beaches are located on the eastern side of the island. On the west, there are fewer beaches, and these are calmer as they do not attract many people.

 

Tsambika

Tsambika is one of the most popular beaches in Rhodes. It is located near Archangelos, as seen on our map above. Directly above the beach is the rock where the Monastery of Panagia Tsambika Psili is located – patron saint of childless couples. The beach is organised and has facilities for many watersports. The waters are crystal clear and spotless, and the sand is fine and golden.

Faliraki

Faliraki in Rhodes is known worldwide, mainly for its nightlife. It may not have the best reputation for the type of tourists who visit it, but in the mornings, this beach is an oasis. It has many beach bars to choose from and a plethora of activities to do. Slides into the sea for children and other various inflatables, jet skis, and many other watersports. You can also go windsurfing and even bungee jumping if you are more adventurous. The beach is located 13 km south of Rhodes Town, and the sand is fine. It might even be the most popular beach on the island.

 

Afantou

A very well-known beach, mainly among locals. It is located near Faliraki, and you could combine visiting both these wonderful beaches in one day. The sand here is also fine, but in some areas, it has pebbles, and the sea deepens abruptly. The beach is not organised along its entire length, and you will see all kinds of bathers. It has a few beach bars and a few tavernas, but you will find the freshest fish.

 

Anthony Quinn

This unique bay enchants all who visit it, just as it did the actor Anthony Quinn during the filming of "The Guns of Navarone". The sea is cool and its waters are green; the beach is made of pebbles and sand. Do not miss the opportunity to see this small but beautiful beach.

 

Ialyssos

Ialyssos is located southwest of Rhodes Town and is a large beach. Many parts of it are private and belong to the hotels directly above it, but there are also many parts that are excellently organised. It is one of the cleanest beaches, sandy but also with pebbles. This beach is ideal for surfers as it usually has many large waves.

Prasonisi

Prasonisi has something unique about it. It is the southernmost point of the island and is essentially a strip of land, approximately one kilometre long, with two beaches stretching out on its left and right. Sometimes this strip of land is covered by water. The area is ideal for all kinds of watersports due to the winds that gather there. There is no organised section, but it is a unique landscape.

One thing is certain: in Rhodes, you will find exactly the accommodation you are dreaming of. You will find beautiful and luxurious hotels with private pools and beaches, but you will also find more affordable options in rented rooms with quality amenities. There are many areas where you could stay in Rhodes, as it is a very large island. We would recommend that you do not stay near the Old Town due to the noise and crowds of tourists. Choose to stay somewhere near Rhodes Town and to its east. Of course, with your vehicle, you should make sure to visit other areas of the island.

What to see on the island of the Knights

Rhodes, an island with a rich history, has a lot to offer its visitors. The places you must visit are:

 

Rhodes Old Town

Entering the port by ship, the first thing you see in Mandraki are the deer welcoming you to the island. The deer are a symbol of the island and live freely. Legend has it that before the deer, the Colossus of Rhodes stood there, and ships passed between its legs. Behind them, you can see the walls of the Old Town. Many civilisations have passed through this island, and all have left their mark on the Old Town. You will find fountains, hammams, statues, mosques, and many other things. Let yourself wander through the Old Town, and you won't regret it. You can see the castle moat there and, of course, visit the Palace of the Grand Master or Castello. It is located on the northwestern side of the Old Town, at the end of the Street of the Knights. It was the residence of the Italian commander and is now fully restored. It has many rooms with exhibits that you can visit.

 

Valley of the Butterflies Rhodes

On the northwestern side of Rhodes, near the village of Theologos, lies the Valley of the Butterflies, an area of 600 acres that, from June to September, literally fills with colourful butterflies. The prevailing conditions are ideal for the butterflies' mating, which is why we see so many gathered in one place. The area is full of all kinds of trees and offers a unique spectacle with small bridges for people to cross, as well as ponds with water lilies and much more. If you have children, you absolutely must take them to this fairytale setting.

 

Water park in Faliraki, Rhodes – one of the largest in Europe

If you have children, you absolutely must dedicate one day of your holiday to Greece's largest water park. It is a 100,000 sqm area full of pools. You will find a wave pool, many, many waterslides: Twisters, Black Hole, Turbo, Free Fall, and Kamikaze are just a few of them. Toddlers aged 0-3 enter for free, children aged 3-12 have an entrance fee of 16 euros, and adults 24 euros, which grants you admission from 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM. Throughout the park, there are instructors and lifeguards who ensure your safety. It also has restaurants, cafes, and a supermarket where you can buy whatever you need.

 

Rhodes' unique nightlife

Rhodes is an island famous for its vibrant nightlife. The protagonist in this, of course, is Faliraki, Rhodes. It has countless bars for all tastes. Other areas with intense nightlife include Lindos and Ialyssos. Of course, the Old Town could not be missing from these places. It has the most beautiful small bars and incredible Greek music venues.

Paradiso Beach Club: located in Rhodes Town, this club, which is the largest on the island, has hosted some of the most famous DJs in the world, such as David Guetta, Bob Sinclair, David Morales, Aban, and Axwell. Check if they are hosting anyone during your stay on the island and don't miss the opportunity.

Colorado Club: the best DJs on the island play at this two-storey club in Rhodes Town.

Blue Lagoon: a pool and a pirate ship are the centrepiece of this wonderful bar. It plays foreign music in a superb exotic atmosphere.

 

Sting Club: the most famous bar in Faliraki. Anything can happen there. One thing is for sure: you will have a wonderful time dancing until sunrise.

How to get to Rhodes – Flights to Rhodes

You can visit Rhodes either by ferry or by air with direct flights from Thessaloniki and Athens.

Ferries to Rhodes depart from Piraeus, and tickets start from 20€ – depending on the ferry and the period you depart.

On the other hand, flights to Rhodes are offered by Aegean – Olympic Air, Ellinair, as well as Ryanair for domestic flights within Greece. There are airlines that offer connections between Rhodes and international cities, such as Volotea.
