# Aegina

One of the favourite islands in the Saronic Gulf is Aegina, located just 45 minutes by car from Piraeus. It is a large island, ideal for short holidays. It is also the closest island to Athens, which makes it very popular.

In Aegina, there are many interesting things to do, such as visiting the Temple of Aphaia, the best-preserved classical temple in Greece. Furthermore, Aegina boasts unique beaches, as well as picturesque fishing villages where you can enjoy fresh fish with an amazing sea view.

# Hydra

Another beautiful island in the Saronic Gulf, Hydra feels like a special paradise due to the ban on motorised vehicles. Transport in Hydra is by donkeys and sea taxis, as well as, of course, on foot. The reason is that the island of Hydra has been declared a protected heritage site. It's an excellent escape from busy Athens, especially for hiking enthusiasts. Impressive 18th-century villas line the waterfront, while there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and museums. # Spetses

Spetses is a charming green island, known for its neoclassical houses and its role in the Greek War of Independence. This is the second island in our country where cars are not allowed, but you can rent a scooter for your transport. The beaches of Agioi Anargyroi and Agia Paraskevi – each a few kilometres away from the main town – are ideal for hot summer days. However, don't miss visiting the very interesting museums, such as the Museum of Spetses or the Museum of Bouboulina.

# Agistri 

Agistri is a short boat ride from Athens, making it a very popular weekend destination. It's a small paradise where you can relax on pebble beaches like Aponissos or Dragonera. The beautiful waters there are ideal for swimming and snorkelling, next to quiet little villages.

# Poros

Consisting of two islands (Sfairia and Kalavria) connected by an artificial canal, Poros is separated from the Peloponnese by a narrow sea passage. Sfairia boasts beautiful neoclassical houses, while pine-covered Kalavria is where you'll find secluded beaches and hotels. Attracting many from Athens for a weekend break or a day trip, Poros hosts the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon. Climb the clock tower to enjoy the boundless views of the gulf.

# Kythnos

# Kea/Tzia

The archaeological site of Ancient Karthaia is also worth a visit, with its impressive temple ruins and ancient theatre. # Andros

Andros is ideal for hiking enthusiasts, water sports fanatics and art lovers. Here, you'll find a museum of contemporary art, archaeological museums and even a museum dedicated to the olive. Its beaches, such as Agios Petros, Ormos, Batsi, Korthi, and Tis Grias To Pidima, are simply stunning and offer wonderful moments of relaxation. # Tinos

Tinos is another excellent Cycladic island that you can easily reach from Athens if you depart from the port of Rafina. The journey takes from 2 to 4 hours. Furthermore, due to its proximity to Andros and Mykonos, it can easily be included in an island-hopping itinerary. 

Hiking and cycling are among the most popular activities you can enjoy on the island, as well as some of the calmest and most impressive beaches in the Aegean. 

# Sifnos

Sifnos can be close or far from Athens, depending on the mode of transport you choose. The journey to Sifnos can take 2.5 hours by fast ferry or 5 hours by regular service. Sifnos is the ideal destination to enjoy the beautiful traditional Cycladic architecture, with whitewashed houses and small chapels located in secluded spots near the sea. Among the many things you can do on the island, don't miss taking a walk to the old Kastro of Sifnos, an ancient Venetian acropolis dating back to the 14th century, or exploring some of Greece's most beautiful and photogenic monasteries.

# Serifos

Visiting Serifos can be convenient, depending on the ferry you choose to reach the island. The ferry journey from Piraeus to Serifos takes between 2.5 and 5 hours. When exploring this tiny island, be aware that the landscape is not flat, so hiking, walking, or driving are essential to reach the idyllic beaches of Serifos' beautiful Chora, which is located on a hilltop near the main port.

# Syros
