St. George's Chapel

When visiting Portofino, it is a 'must' to see the small castle with the chapel of St. George, located on the hillside directly above the small harbour. It was rebuilt after World War II and is said to 'hide' the relics of St. George, which were brought to this location from the Holy Land by the Crusaders.

Every year on 23rd April, St. George's Day is celebrated with great honour. The castle was built in the Middle Ages and was restored in the 16th and 18th centuries.
