Agios Georgios Nilias – Pelion

At an altitude of 700 metres above sea level, Agios Georgios Pelion is a place where you will find old slate stone houses and neoclassical mansions dating from the 19^th century!

Arnaia, Halkidiki

Arnaia in mountainous Halkidiki is known as one of the most beautiful and traditional villages in Macedonia.

Built at an altitude of 1,800 metres within the Holomontas forest, Arnaia is full of traditional two and three-storey stone houses.

Arnaia features a distinctive architecture adopted from the Ottomans, which aimed to protect the area from the harsh winter cold.

 

Ano Syros – Cyclades

Perched atop a hill in Syros, overlooking its capital Ermoupoli, Ano Syros is a classic Cycladic settlement.

Here you will find Catholic churches, as most residents are descendants of Venetian settlers who arrived here in the late Middle Ages and are Catholic Christians.

The Catholic churches do not feature icons, but only statues of Saint Francis and Saint Benedict.

Here, Easter is celebrated according to the Orthodox calendar (following a special dispensation from the Vatican) to avoid issues with the other Orthodox Christians in the area.
