Historical information

The first inhabitants of the area were Native Americans who gradually began to disappear in the 17th century with the arrival of the Dutch and other European peoples who settled in the area mainly for commercial purposes.

The area was initially named "New Amsterdam" after the Dutch colony that began to develop. In the 18th century, New York was involved in the War of Independence and also served as a political refuge for President George Washington.

Towards the end of the 18th century, when America gained its independence, New York began to develop rapidly and for a period it was also the capital of America.
