If you're looking for the ideal winter destination or at least a place where you can combine a multitude of activities for this winter, then you've just found it!

Loutra Pozar, which in the local dialect means “under the fire”, is the ideal solution for those who want to rest, relax and feel a little closer to nature.

Location

Loutra Pozar is located in the village of Loutraki, at the foot of Mount Voras – Kaimaktsalan. It is 33 km away from Edessa and just 13 km from the town of Aridaia.

The village's altitude is low, only 350 metres. It is a relatively close destination for the residents of Macedonia, without, of course, excluding visitors who come from all over Greece and the Balkans.

Loutra Pozar

The water at Loutra originates from the natural cycle of rainwater. The water reaches a very great depth where it is heated, and as it gushes from the earth's interior, it is enriched with all the therapeutic elements of the soil.

The water reaches a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius and possesses multiple healing properties.

The therapeutic water is recommended for individuals suffering from skin conditions, those who suffer from rheumatic diseases, as well as respiratory and circulatory system ailments.

Balneotherapy, i.e. drinking therapeutic water with specific properties, is recommended for particular conditions of the kidneys, gallbladder, intestines, and stomach.

It should always be done after medical advice and usually needs to be applied in the area where it springs, always in combination with the tranquillity and serenity that these areas offer. The natural landscape helps rejuvenate the body and spirit.

Loutropolis Facilities

At the facilities, you will find a wide range of activities that you can enjoy, always in conjunction with the baths and the surrounding landscape. Opening hours are very extended, as they operate from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

The indoor pools – baths are available 24 hours a day.

There is an outdoor pool where you can bathe, and it is also the most economical option in the area, apart from the waterfall, which you can access for just 2€ for as long as you wish!

Inside the organised hydrotherapy centre, you will find facilities such as changing rooms, indoor pools, Jacuzzi, spa, saunas, hammam, and artificial waterfalls.

In all facilities, water is continuously circulated and recycled, and all hygiene and protection rules are strictly adhered to. There are six indoor pools, and it is essential to make a reservation in advance, either online or by phone.

For the indoor pools, each appointment lasts for half an hour.

Our experience with online booking was not the best (in fact, it was the worst!). After making the reservation early in the morning and paying online by card, it was automatically cancelled 1.5 hours later, and we were left without a booking!

When we called customer service, they told us that “unfortunately, we cannot do anything to help you...”

The spa and Jacuzzi are located in other rooms, offering an ideal opportunity for extra points of relaxation.

Of course, if you prefer, you can choose to have a rejuvenating or relaxing massage to complete the experience.

For massages, however, you will need to book an appointment in advance.

Loutra Pozar Activities

You will find a wealth of activities in the area for all preferences and age groups.

At a very short distance, you can visit the Kaimaktsalan ski centre and test your skiing skills or enjoy a coffee at the unique, panoramic café located at the base of the centre!

Another excursion, very close to the ski centre, is the traditional village of Old Agios Athanasios.

There you can try traditional flavours in the area's tavernas, walk through the narrow streets, and enjoy a hot chocolate in a café.

In Old Agios Athanasios, you will find plenty of accommodation options – from economical proposals to premium hotels, full of amenities!

Another excursion you can make is towards Lake Vegoritida and Arnissa. There you can take a stroll by the lake, admire the scenery, and even go fishing!

The distance from Loutra Pozar to Arnissa is approximately 1 hour.

Loutra Cave – Museum

In the Pozar area, there is a complex of 16 caves, but not all of them have been explored to date.

Evidence of primitive man has been found, such as objects and tools he used.

Many findings also exist for the brown bear. Bones of leopards, hyenas, and foxes have also been found.

Moglenitsa River

The river is located in the centre of the Pella region and crosses the entire Almopia plain.

Along the river, you will encounter dense vegetation, including many types of trees, shrubs, and very beautiful and rare flowers.

Naturally, due to the vegetation, the area is also home to many types of birds and reptiles, as well as fish in the river, fostering a beautiful ecosystem.

On the river, provided conditions are ideal and only in specific spots, you can go rafting and kayaking with the guidance of experienced instructors.

You can also hike around the river to admire and photograph the magnificent natural landscape.

During your stay in the area, you can also visit Orma, an area 5 km away from Loutraki, where you can enjoy traditional food and a stroll in the village square!
