The Komboloi Museum was founded in 1998 to showcase the history of the well-known beads. Visitors can admire the museum's 4 sections.

One contains prayer beads from Hindu, Buddhist, and Islamic traditions. The second room displays Catholic rosaries and prayer ropes from monasteries, and in the last two rooms, you'll find Greek kombolois, begleria, key holders, jewellery, and prayer beads.

The museum operates daily except Tuesdays and also has a shop where you can purchase anything you desire.

It features Fougaro, a unique arts centre

Just three kilometres from Nafplio, Fougaro is a cultural space that includes an art and science library, exhibition and concert halls, and offers many art workshops. This venue is ideal for an afternoon visit or evening entertainment.

 

Nafplio is full of castles and fortresses

With its distinctive houses and mansions, and charming bougainvillea-lined streets, there's no doubt that Nafplio is a blend of beautiful colours, thanks to its well-preserved historic centre.

The city also boasts impressive ancient monuments from its historical past, with three fortresses dominating the landscape.

The impressive Palamidi Castle is built above Nafplio. It was constructed by the Venetians between 1711 and 1714. To visit it, you'll need to climb the steps (far fewer than the traditional 999) until you reach the top and enjoy the breathtaking views of the entire city.

Admire the gates dating back to the Bronze Age at the Akronafplia fortress, located high behind the Old Town. It was used as a prison until the 1950s, and although only ruins remain now, it's still worth a visit.

Bourtzi, located on a small islet near the harbour, was also built by the Venetians in the 15th century. Over the years, it has served as a castle, a prison, a hotel, and a tourism and housing office for the Greek government. Accessible by boat, Bourtzi is now used to host events and concerts in the summer.
