Transportation on the island is done in various ways. Songthaews, the red pickup trucks that act as shared taxis, are the cheapest way to get around the main routes. You simply wave them down, get in, and ring the bell when you want to get off. The price is usually agreed upon in advance if you're going to a specific point off-route. Taxis are everywhere but are more expensive and drivers often refuse to use the meter, so you need to negotiate the price. The Grab app works well and offers more stable fares.
