Change in Ryanair's Cabin Baggage Policy

The popular low-cost airline, Ryanair, has announced a new change regarding cabin baggage, as well as a pricing alteration (price reduction) for luggage transported in the aircraft's hold.

 

Until now, for approximately the last 2 years, Ryanair has allowed 2 pieces of hand luggage on board: one suitcase of restricted dimensions (see Ryanair cabin baggage dimensions here) and also a personal item, which can be a camera bag, a personal handbag, a laptop bag, and so on.

From 20 December 2017, the airline will restrict free cabin baggage on board. More specifically, only passengers with priority will be entitled to 2 pieces of hand luggage (this costs an extra 5€ during the booking process for air tickets). Other passengers will be entitled to 1 personal item (a small bag), while their main hand luggage must be handed over – free of charge – at the departure gate to be placed in the baggage hold.

Upon arrival at your destination, you will collect your hand luggage from the airport's conveyor belts.

Of course, this will cause delays for passengers in a hurry, as the process of retrieving luggage from the conveyor belts takes approximately 30 minutes.

In addition to this change in cabin baggage, Ryanair also announced a price reduction for checked luggage. More specifically, when booking a suitcase along with your air tickets, the price is now 25€ / suitcase, and the weight limit has increased from 15kg to 20kg!

The company's announcement comes at a volatile time for them, with pilots having announced strikes from 20 December onwards.

It remains to be seen whether any flights will be changed or cancelled, and which ones these will be.
