Cobalt Air Ceases Operations

The Cypriot airline Cobalt Air ceased operations at midnight on Wednesday, after almost 2 years of service.

The company's first flight was on 1^st June 2016, and today it concludes a short lifespan of just 2 years and 4 months.

The airline issued a statement which read, among other things:

"It is with deep regret that we announce that COBALT AIR will be suspending its operations at midnight on 17 October 2018 and entering into administration after 2 years and 3 months of operations," the announcement stated, adding that "this is a sad day for all COBALT AIR staff and passengers.

Over the past few months, the company has been working tirelessly and continuously to ensure its long-term financial viability. Despite all the superhuman efforts made, and the hard work and dedication in building and establishing this company, it has unfortunately not been possible to secure the financial resources necessary for its continued operation," the announcement noted.

The company, the announcement concluded, "wishes to thank its staff for their hard work, dedication, high level of service, its customers who supported it and travelled safely with it, as well as all its partners."

Cobalt Air was born from the ashes of Cyprus Airways – the Cypriot carrier that dissolved in 2015.

Cobalt operated Airbus 320 aircraft. The company's flights often experienced delays, schedule changes without informing passengers, and other unacceptable behaviour.

Around 300 employees worked for the company, and they will now lose their jobs.
