Flights from Athens to Dubai: Fares and Flight Guide

Flights to Dubai from Athens typically cost around €150–400 one-way and €300–700 return in economy, outside periods of high demand. A direct flight takes approximately 4 hours 20 minutes to 4 hours 50 minutes. Emirates and AEGEAN offer direct services, but check the available schedule for your specific dates. Fares are usually lower during the hot summer months, and you are more likely to find good deals if you avoid Christmas, New Year, public holidays and major events.

These are indicative budget ranges, not live offers. The final price depends on availability, baggage, fare conditions and whether you fly direct or connect. On peak dates, fares can be considerably higher.

Which airlines fly from Athens to Dubai?

Direct flights

Emirates and AEGEAN connect Athens with DXB airport. Frequency, departure times and availability may vary throughout the year. Before arranging hotels or activities, check the schedule for your departure and return dates.

Compare the whole package, not just the initial price: checked baggage, cabin baggage, seat selection and flexibility to make changes. A difference in the base fare may shrink or disappear once you add everything you need. Also check the arrival time, as landing at night affects your transfer and your first night's accommodation.

Connecting flights

Common options to look for include Turkish Airlines via Istanbul and Qatar Airways via Doha. Other combinations may also be available, depending on schedules. A connection does not automatically mean a lower price, especially if it involves a long wait or an overnight stay.

Choose a through ticket when the savings from separate bookings are small. With a single booking, the airline will generally arrange an alternative route if a delay to your first flight causes you to miss your connection. With separate tickets, you may be responsible for the cost of a new flight and any accommodation you need.

How much do flights cost by season?

For initial budgeting, the following ranges are for economy travel per adult and may include direct or connecting flights. They are not verified current offers or guaranteed minimum and maximum prices.

  • June–September: around €130–320 one-way and €260–550 return. The intense heat reduces tourist demand, although some dates can still be expensive.
  • April–May and October: around €170–400 one-way and €330–700 return. Public holidays and events can push up costs.
  • November–March, excluding holidays: around €200–480 one-way and €400–850 return, as the weather is more appealing for a holiday.
  • Christmas, New Year and other peak dates: around €300–750 one-way and €600–1,300 return, with fares potentially even higher.

A one-way ticket does not necessarily cost half the price of a return. Check both booking options, keeping baggage allowances and fare conditions comparable. When to book for cheaper flights

No particular day of the week guarantees the lowest fare. In practice, it is worth starting to monitor prices two to four months ahead for typical travel dates, and earlier for holidays. This gives you a useful window for comparison, rather than a rule that predicts when prices will fall.

  • Check departures and returns two or three days either side of your original dates.
  • Set up price alerts for the route.
  • Compare different trip lengths, not just different flight times.
  • Budget for flights and your hotel together, especially during major trade fairs.
  • Set a total price you are comfortable with and avoid waiting endlessly for a deal that may never appear.

Our tips for cheaper flights offer more ways to compare your options. If you are departing soon, also read what to look out for when booking last-minute flights. For popular winter dates, waiting until the last moment carries a significant risk.

How long is the flight, and which airport do you arrive at?

A direct Athens–Dubai flight usually takes approximately 4 hours 20 minutes to 4 hours 50 minutes. Scheduled flight times vary by service and direction, and are affected by winds and operational conditions. A convenient connecting itinerary may take around 7–12 hours in total, but longer layovers can add considerably to the journey.

Dubai International, DXB, is the main airport for this route. Al Maktoum International, DWC, is a different airport, much further south. Sharjah Airport, SHJ, is in another emirate. If these appear as alternatives, factor in the time, traffic and cost of the onward road transfer.

Dubai is one hour ahead of Greece when Greece is on summer time, and two hours ahead in winter. Times shown on tickets are local. You can find more details in our guide to Athens–Dubai flight times.

Getting from the airport into the city

Dubai does not have a single city centre. Deira, Downtown and Dubai Marina are separate destinations. The following journey times are estimates for travel from DXB after collecting your baggage.

  • Metro: the Red Line serves Terminals 1 and 3. Allow around 25–40 minutes to the Downtown area and 50–70 minutes to the Marina, depending on your station. A standard-class journey may cost around AED 3–9, depending on the zones and ticket type, excluding any card purchase fee.
  • Official taxi: around 15–30 minutes to Deira, 20–40 minutes to Downtown and 35–60 minutes to the Marina, without heavy congestion. As a guide, budget approximately AED 40–75, AED 60–100 and AED 90–150 respectively, with variations due to traffic and tolls.
  • Bus: a budget option, costing around AED 3–9 for typical urban journeys. It often takes longer or involves changes, and is less convenient with lots of luggage.

Public transport uses the nol system. Check the current metro operating hours, as it does not run around the clock. Terminal 2 has no metro station within the terminal. For taxis and ride-hailing apps, confirm the fare or how it is calculated before setting off.

Dubai: what to see and when to go

For a first visit, four to six nights gives you a reasonable amount of time to discover different sides of the city without rushing every day. The key is to group your sightseeing by area. Distances are long, and two places that look close on a map may take quite a while to travel between by metro, on foot or by taxi. Leave time to rest too, especially if you arrive at night or are travelling with children.

Start with Dubai Creek, the markets of Deira and the Al Fahidi neighbourhood. Crossing the creek in a traditional abra is an easy way to travel between the two banks. The souks sell spices, textiles and gold, but they are worth exploring even if you do not plan to buy anything. If you do intend to shop, compare quality and final prices, especially for jewellery, where weight and workmanship affect the cost.

In Downtown, combine Dubai Mall with the area around the Burj Khalifa. If you want to visit an observation deck, check the floor, time slot and entry conditions in advance. Slots around sunset are often in greater demand. The mall is enormous, so choose specific places of interest rather than trying to fit everything in. Getting there from the metro station involves a fairly long walk along a covered walkway.

For beach time and a more relaxed itinerary, consider JBR or Kite Beach. Dubai Marina is a good choice for a late-afternoon stroll and dinner, while Jumeirah lets you combine the beach with stops for food. Public beaches are not the same as private beach clubs: the latter may charge an entry fee or require a minimum spend. Check for the facilities you need, such as shade, showers and changing rooms, before deciding where to spend the day.

A desert safari can fill an afternoon, but choose your operator carefully. Ask about transfer times, group size, meals and included activities. Dune bashing is intense and is not suitable for everyone, particularly during pregnancy or with certain back and neck conditions. Gentler excursions are available, focusing on the scenery and dinner without requiring you to take part in strenuous activities.

The most pleasant time for exploring outdoors is usually November–March. April and October are still noticeably hot, but morning outings and a midday break make sightseeing more comfortable. In summer, high temperatures and humidity severely limit walking. A cheaper flight at this time makes sense if you are happy with air-conditioned venues, pool time and just a few outdoor activities very early or late in the day. For more places to visit and help dividing up your time, see our Dubai travel guide.

Where to stay

Downtown is convenient for the Burj Khalifa and major sights, the Marina and JBR for the beach and evening strolls, while Deira and Bur Dubai often offer more budget-friendly options. The best base depends on your itinerary, not just the hotel's star rating.

Check the actual walking route to the metro: a major road or a detour can make a big difference to your daily journeys. Also factor in local charges, breakfast and cancellation terms. Our guide to where to stay in Dubai: areas and hotels helps you compare the main neighbourhoods.

Baggage and low-cost airlines

Do not assume that every ticket includes a checked bag. Even with the same airline, allowances vary by fare. Check the weight, dimensions and number of items permitted for your personal item, cabin baggage and checked baggage on both your outbound and return flights.

Low-cost services to the United Arab Emirates do not necessarily serve DXB or operate from Athens. Seasonal routes change, so check the schedule. Do not treat a flight to Abu Dhabi or Sharjah as though it lands in Dubai: the transfer can eat up much of the saving.

For connections involving different airlines, read the rules for each leg. A cabin bag accepted on the first flight may be subject to different restrictions on the second. Include baggage when comparing prices, rather than adding it after choosing the fare that appears cheapest.

Practical tips before booking

  • Passport: Greek citizens need a passport, not just an identity card. It generally needs to be valid for at least six months on entry. Confirm current requirements with an official source.
  • Entry requirements: Greek passport holders can generally make short tourist visits without obtaining a visa in advance. Check the permitted length of stay and conditions for your nationality.
  • Medication: certain medicines are subject to restrictions or an approval process. Keep your prescription and the original packaging, and check guidance from the relevant authorities.
  • Insurance: choose cover for medical expenses and read the exclusions for activities and pre-existing conditions.
  • Mobile phone: European roaming arrangements do not automatically apply in the UAE. Compare your provider's package with a local SIM or compatible eSIM.
  • Local customs: respect dress codes at religious sites and restrictions on photographing people. During Ramadan, check for any changes to opening hours.

Before paying, verify that names match your passport, and check the dates, arrival airport and final price. For a longer stay involving remote work, the requirements differ from those for a simple visit: see our guide to Dubai for digital nomads: visas, living costs and neighbourhoods.
