Skiathos Town, built on two hills around the port, features cobbled alleys, the islet of Bourtzi with its theatre, the house of Alexandros Papadiamantis, and one of the highest concentrations of restaurants and bars in the Aegean. It is the hub where all buses and boat trips converge.

The main road along the south coast is about 14 km long and ends at Koukounaries, the island's most famous beach, with golden sand and a pine forest behind it. Along the way, you’ll find Megali Ammos, Vromolimnos, Kanapitsa, Troulos, Agia Paraskevi, and Marathias.

The Skiathos bus service is one of the most user-friendly in Greece: one line, twenty-six stops, with buses running every fifteen to twenty minutes during peak season. This means you can stay on any south coast beach and be in Skiathos Town for dinner without a car.

The airport is located two kilometres from Skiathos Town and is famous for its low landings directly over the road. There are also daily ferry and speedboat connections from Volos and Agios Konstantinos, as well as to Skopelos and Alonnisos, making island hopping very easy.

Two to three kilometres from Skiathos Town, these first bays on the south coast combine sandy beaches with close proximity to the port's lively atmosphere. They are the ideal solution for anyone who wants both without a car.

Kanapitsa and Vassilias: quiet bays with resorts

The Kanapitsa peninsula, about 6 km from Skiathos Town, features small pine-fringed coves, water sports, and some of the island's best hotels. Vassilias is equally quiet and closer to Skiathos Town.

Troulos and Agia Paraskevi: family-friendly middle zone

Located 8 to 10 km away, Troulos and Agia Paraskevi offer organised sandy beaches, supermarkets, and tavernas, with prices more reasonable than Koukounaries. This is also where the road to the quiet Krassa and Mandraki begins.

Koukounaries: the island's premier beach
