Paris

Despite the air pollution problem Paris has been facing in recent days, the City of Lights is trying to find a new 'green' identity, as the trend to clear the congested city of cars is being promoted.

The clean-up of the Seine is underway, cycle paths and pedestrian walkways along the right bank of the river are replacing the fast-lane road, while beautiful gardens and pedestrian areas stretch along the left bank for Parisians to stroll.

Changes are also visible in the art institutions of the French capital. The Louvre's Islamic Arts patio is acquiring a golden 'flying carpet', new bells, accurate replicas of the medieval ones, are chiming for Notre Dame, while after years of renovations, the Picasso Museum is reopening.
