The locations where Casa De Papel was filmed

Casa De Papel, also known as Money Heist or in Greek «Η Τέλεια Ληστεία» (The Perfect Heist), has achieved tremendous commercial success, thanks to the publicity it gained from Netflix's promotion.

Essentially, it is a Spanish production for which Netflix acquired exclusive rights for both the 2 seasons already released and for future episodes – with rumours suggesting that the 3^rd season is already in the making.

But where was Casa De Papel filmed? Where is the estate with the villa where the Professor gives his lessons?

Was the series really filmed at the Mint or somewhere else?

Let's look at it all, scene by scene…

 

The Royal Mint

Most of the casting and series filming took place inside the Royal Mint. However, the truth is that this is NOT the Madrid Mint!

The Mint's administration did not grant permission for filming due to security reasons, so the production had to choose another building.

The scenes inside the Mint, where the hostage situation takes place and most of the series unfolds, were filmed in the building of the Spanish National Research Council – the largest public institution in Spain, also located in Madrid (in Spanish: Centro Superior de Investigaciones Científicas).

Now, thousands of people gather outside the CSIC building to take photos in the places where they admired their heroes!

However, all the exterior scenes were filmed at the Mint, as well as the scene where the robbers go out onto the roof with the hostages (the scene where Arturo is shot – yes, the one where we all wished the bullet had hit its mark!).

 

The estate where the training takes place

The training by the Professor and the meticulous planning of the heist takes place at an estate in Torrelodones, 31 km north-east of central Madrid and 105 km from Toledo, which is mentioned in the series.

The building in Torrelodones where the filming, training, and rest of the robbers take place is called Finca El Gasco.

Many other events, such as weddings and celebrations, are often held here.

It was in this building that the plan for the perfect heist was organised, where the Professor left nothing to chance.

The building is constructed entirely of granite stone from the Berrocal quarries and is surrounded by rustic gardens.

It is two storeys high, with a total surface area of 1,400 square metres.

It features 11 rooms, 5 bathrooms, kitchens, and a garden.

The estate costs €4,500,000, but its price has seen a huge increase due to its widespread recognition from the series!

The photograph with the fireplace, where the scene was filmed with the Professor and Berlin singing Bella Ciao arm-in-arm, the night before the heist.

 

Money Printing

The scenes where Nairobi inspects and prints the money were filmed at the printing house of ABC NEWS MADRID, as the Royal Mint did not grant permission due to security and protocol reasons!

Thus, to make it as realistic as possible, the filming was done at the ABC NEWS press, replacing newspaper paper with special paper to simulate banknotes!

The Car Scrapyard

The Professor had to go to a car scrapyard, where his old SEAT ended up, to cover his DNA tracks. This scrapyard is located in El Choque del Desguaces and has featured in several other series and films!

 

Inspector Murillo's House

The house where Inspector Murillo lives with her mother and daughter is located on Calle San Juan de la Cruz in Villanueva de la Canada, Madrid.

There, the Professor goes to kill the inspector's mother because she has recognised him, but at the last minute he realises she suffers from Alzheimer's and remembers nothing!

 

Other Casa De Papel locations you should visit in Madrid

If you're a fan of the series and find yourself on a trip to Madrid, then you definitely need to visit Calle Del Oro 51 – the address where it all began – where the Professor finds Tokyo and convinces her of his plan!

Another significant spot is the street where the Professor unlocks a police car and sends a fake signal from the radio to mislead the police and gain time!

This location is at Calle del Labrador 7.

Both spots are in central Madrid.

 

The Final Scene

The last scene shows Inspector Murillo going to Bali and looking for the Professor, whom she eventually finds enjoying his cocktail in a bar!

In reality, this scene was filmed in Thailand!
