You've certainly been looking forward to a trip... You've made your bookings months in advance, checked flights, hotels, and transport... And then comes the moment you go over budget!

How can you save money on a trip? Can you find cheap flights with a few small tricks? How can you find cheap accommodation?

In this article, we will try to analyse some small – and big – tips that will help you save a significant amount of money for your trip.

Regarding your accommodation:

If you have a low budget, opt for an apartment, hostel, or through the AIRBNB platform where you can find reliable apartments with recognised reviews from previous guests. By staying in an apartment instead of a hotel, you will significantly reduce accommodation costs!

If, despite this, you want to stay in a hotel, with all its amenities, then contact the hotel directly for an offer on rooms for your travel date. Online booking sites, due to commissions, offer significantly higher prices than what you can get directly from the hotelier!

Arrange transport from your home to the airport and back

Transport from your home or workplace to the airport and back is by no means a negligible expense – it can cost you up to 100€ return. Make sure to either go by your own car to the airport and have booked cheap parking in advance, or book economical return transport.

Vehicle rental in the destination country

If you want to explore the country you are visiting better, you will need to rent a vehicle (motorbike – car depending on the situation). It is best to have made the booking in advance, when you are still booking your flight tickets. Although roaming is being abolished in the European Union from 2017, it still exists. This means you will incur high charges for your phone calls and data transfer. Use only Wi-Fi for both communication and browsing the internet.

Finally, we have flight tickets. It is advisable to make your booking 90-100 days before departure. This way you will get the best possible price. Also, check all available airlines and their routes. For example, an evening flight might be cheaper than a morning one!
