Getting ready for your first trip? Are you afraid you'll fly and still haven't booked your flights? Do you not know the language of the place you're visiting and are panicking? Read 50 useful tips on travelo.gr that will make you feel much more comfortable before your first trip!
Travel planning
– Do your own research by reading online guides, such as on travelo.gr, and talk to less known people and friends. Acquaintances and friends have subjective opinions and you can be easily influenced.
– Set your budget from the start and begin saving! The biggest expenses on a trip are airline tickets and accommodation costs!
– Create a comfortable and enjoyable trip. You shouldn't constantly be on edge, nor rush from one tour to another. You should include all the activities you can in the place you're visiting but also have time for relaxation.
– Check if there's a customs office where you're going (outside the EU) and what documents you'll need, such as visas, etc.
– If you're travelling to distant countries, it's a good idea to have a check-up with your doctor. In African countries and elsewhere, you might need to get some vaccinations.
– If you'll be using your card, debit or credit, inform your bank so they are aware of transactions made outside the country and don't cancel them.
– Print several copies of your ID as well as your airline tickets.
Packing – suitcase packing
– Create a list of things you want to take with you. This way you won't forget anything and you'll also have a more complete idea of what you'll need.
– Make sure you have comfortable shoes and socks with you. You'll be doing a lot of walking everywhere!
– If you have one, prefer a suitcase with colours or put a ribbon on it. This will make it immediately recognisable in the baggage area!
– If you're wondering whether or not to take an item of clothing, then don't take it. If you really wanted it, you would have already put it in!
– Don't forget any medications, aspirin, and allergy pills if you have them!
– A good book for long journeys or some electronic companion to keep you company is a good idea!
– If you're starting your exploration immediately after getting off the plane, then it's a good idea to have a change of clothes and a toothbrush in your hand luggage. In 5 minutes at the airport, you can freshen up!
– Don't forget a power adapter to charge your devices!
– Make sure shampoos and shower gels are in small containers. You won't need 1 litre of shampoo for a few days' holiday!
– Leave photocopies of your documents inside your suitcase.
– Pack a small first-aid kit with plasters, a little iodine, etc.
– Weigh your suitcase before departure. Check the weight allowance on your airline tickets.
Flight
– If you're flying to a different continent and time zone, then choose to eat and sleep on the plane according to the time zone of your destination. This will help you beat jet lag!
– Don't drink alcohol during the flight. This will stress you out, won't relax you, and will also dehydrate you.
– On the contrary, drink plenty of water!
– On long flights, get up and walk around the cabin – it will help you stretch.
– Don't worry about turbulence – it's completely normal!
– Pre-order your meal – especially on long flights.
– A sleep mask and earplugs will certainly make you feel much better!
When you arrive at your destination
– Respect any checks you may undergo. They are for everyone's safety!
– Be polite and friendly to everyone. You might need some information very soon!
– Don't compare what you see with what you experience in your city. Focus on the uniqueness and diversity of each place.
– Learn some local phrases like “thank you”, “please”, “excuse me”, etc.
– Divide your money and keep some on you and some in your suitcase, at the hotel.
– Don't be afraid to ask locals about anything you don't know. Most will gladly help you!
– Follow your instinct! If you don't like something, don't do it!
– Watch your belongings.
– Make friends and meet people! There's nothing better when travelling!
– Be especially careful with your mobile data. The bill can suddenly skyrocket!
– Try local dishes and sweets. If not now, when?
– Watch out for your wallet and general thefts.
– Don't leave any regrets! If there's something you want to do, just do it!
– Go out and walk around! It's the only way to truly get to know the place you're visiting.
Photos
– Invest in a good camera. You'll never regret it.
– DON'T take photos with an iPad. It's not nice to see someone taking photos with a 10-inch screen, nor will the photos be good!
– Get up early to take the best photos with the best natural light.
– Be patient – a good photo takes time!
– Look for different shooting angles.
– Don't take a photo full of tourists – prefer empty landscape frames.
– Learn how to take photos with manual settings. You'll get better results!
– The most important thing of all is to enjoy the trip yourself. Whether you're travelling solo or with company, travel is a pleasure. Just make up your mind and do it! Travelo.gr is by your side, offering you the best travel guides along with the cheapest flight tickets for all your destinations!
